Bookkeeping for Denver Small Businesses

Clean, current books for businesses in Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Littleton, Arvada and across the metro. Handled remotely in QuickBooks Online by a bookkeeper on your time zone, and you work with the same person every month.

A bookkeeper you can actually reach

Most Denver owners don't need a bookkeeper down the street. They need one who answers the phone, keeps the books current every month and explains the numbers in plain English. AJM Consulting does full-service bookkeeping for small businesses across the Denver metro, remotely.

We're upfront about it: we're based in Kalispell, Montana, not Denver. That matters less than you'd think. Montana and Colorado are both on Mountain Time, so we keep the same business hours you do. Your bank feeds, receipts and QuickBooks file are already online. What you're really choosing is who watches them, and whether that person picks up when you call.

Here's how it works. We start with a free 30-minute consultation about your business, your accounts and what's been slipping. Then we connect to your bank and card accounts through QuickBooks Online's secure, read-only bank feeds. We can see transactions to categorize and reconcile them; we can't move money. You send receipts and statements digitally. Each month we close the books, reconcile every account and walk you through your reports on a phone or video call.

Who we work with in Denver

Owner-run businesses that have outgrown doing the books at night. Contractors and the trades are our deepest specialty: our founder ran construction and roofing crews before keeping books for anyone else, so job costing, subcontractors and 1099 tracking are home ground. We also work with restaurants, real estate investors, property managers, short-term rental owners and service businesses.

Colorado bookkeeping has its own wrinkles. Denver and several metro cities, including Aurora and Lakewood, collect their own sales tax separately from the state, and Denver has its own occupational privilege tax on payroll. We set up your books so each of those is tracked cleanly, which makes the filings straightforward for you or your CPA.

Questions

Denver bookkeeping FAQs

Are you located in Denver?
No. We're based in Kalispell, Montana, and we work with Denver businesses remotely. Montana and Colorado share Mountain Time, so we keep the same business hours you do. The work itself happens in QuickBooks Online, and your monthly review happens over a phone or video call.
How does remote bookkeeping work?
It starts with a free 30-minute consultation to look at your accounts, your transaction volume and what you need from your books. We connect to your bank and credit card accounts through QuickBooks Online's secure, read-only bank feeds, you share receipts and statements digitally, and we handle the categorizing, reconciling and monthly close. Each month you get your reports and a call to walk through them.
Is remote bookkeeping secure?
Yes. The bank connections are encrypted and read-only: we can see transactions to categorize and reconcile them, but we can't move your money. Documents are shared through secure channels, not long email chains.
Will I work with the same person every month?
Yes. You work directly with the founder. The person who scopes your books is the person who does them, every month. No ticket queue and no re-explaining your business to someone new.
What does bookkeeping cost?
We charge a flat monthly fee. It depends on your transaction volume, the number of accounts we reconcile and the scope of work, such as bill pay, invoicing or job costing. We set it after a free consultation, so you know exactly what you'll pay before we start.
Can you take over books that are behind?
Yes. Catch-up and cleanup work is a big part of what we do. We reconcile the backlog, fix what's been miscategorized and hand you current books, along with a monthly process so they stay that way. More on our catch-up bookkeeping page.
Do you file taxes?
No. We keep the books; your CPA prepares and files your returns. Clean, reconciled books make your CPA's job faster, and we're happy to work directly with them at year end.
