The operator behind AJM Consulting

AJM Consulting is a one-person practice built by someone who's actually run businesses — crews, bids, budgets, payroll, and all. Here's the story, and what it means for the way your books get done.

From the job site to the ledger

Anthony Masucci didn't come to bookkeeping from an accounting office. He came to it from the operating side of small business — and that's the whole point of AJM Consulting.

Anthony spent years running construction and roofing operations: managing crews, putting together bids, holding budgets, and tracking job costs on work where the margin lives or dies in the details. When you've had to decide whether a job actually made money — not in theory, but after the labor, the materials, the callbacks, and the fuel — you learn to read numbers differently. They stop being paperwork and start being the answer to real questions.

That operating background later led him into building software and systems for contractors — tools that help construction businesses manage their pipeline, their jobs, and their money. Between running operations and building the systems behind them, he kept running into the same problem, over and over, in business after business:

Owners were flying blind on their numbers. They were doing their books at midnight after a full day in the field. They were getting reports from accountants that were technically correct and practically useless — statements they couldn't turn into a single decision. The bookkeeping existed, but the clarity didn't.

He started AJM Consulting in Kalispell, Montana to fix that: a founder-run practice that does the books properly and then explains them in plain language, so owners in the Flathead Valley can make decisions with the same confidence a good operator has on a job site.

What that means for you

Plenty of bookkeepers can categorize transactions. What's rarer is a bookkeeper who has actually made payroll decisions when cash was tight, chased receivables from slow-paying customers, and priced jobs knowing that one bad estimate can erase a month of profit. That experience shapes everything about how AJM works:

Your reports come in plain language. Not a stack of statements, but answers: what you made, where it went, which work is actually profitable, and what's coming that you should plan for.

The advice is grounded in operating reality, not theory. When we talk about cash flow, job costing, or whether you can afford a hire, it's a conversation between people who've both had to make those calls — not a lecture from a textbook.

The trades get taken seriously. Contractors are where Anthony's roots are, and contractor bookkeeping — job costing, progress billing, tracking money across long projects — is a core specialty, not an afterthought. That said, the practice serves small businesses of every kind across the valley; you can see the full range on our bookkeeping services page.

How we work

Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute consultation — a real conversation about your business and where your books stand today. No pressure, no pitch. If we're a fit, you'll know the scope and the price before anything begins.

Pricing is a flat monthly fee, never hourly. You should be able to call your bookkeeper with a question without wondering what the call costs. The fee is based on your transaction volume and the accounts being reconciled, so it's predictable and fair to both sides.

And you always work directly with Anthony. There's no account manager, no junior staff, no handoff. The person who learns your business is the person who does your books, month after month. We meet in person across the Flathead Valley or work fully remote anywhere in Montana, running everything through QuickBooks Online so your numbers are secure, current, and accessible from wherever you are.

What we believe

Your books should answer questions, not create them. If a report leaves you more confused than before you opened it, the report failed — not you.

Owners shouldn't do bookkeeping at midnight. Your evenings belong to your family and your rest, not to a pile of receipts. That's what we're for.

Small businesses deserve the same clarity big companies pay departments for. Clean numbers and straight answers shouldn't require a CFO's salary.

Trust is earned monthly. No contracts holding you hostage, no surprise bills, no jargon walls. We keep your business by being worth keeping.

Why founder-run matters

One person, fully accountable

When your bookkeeping runs through a big firm or a national app, your business is one file among hundreds, and the person answering your email changes with the season. A founder-run practice works differently: Anthony knows your business, remembers last quarter's conversation, and picks up the phone when you call. The work carries his name, so it gets done like it does.

That's not a scale limitation — it's the product. Small businesses in the Flathead Valley don't need another layer between them and their numbers. They need one competent, accountable person who treats their books like they matter. That's the practice AJM was built to be.
